Formed in 1982, the Illinois Association of Historic Preservation Commissions (IAHPC) is a private, non-profit organization which encourages local governments to carry out historic preservation activities and aids preservation commissions throughout the state.

The purposes of the IAHPC include:

  • Sharing information among members.
  • Providing training on historic preservation commission activities; facilitate cooperation with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) in carrying out state and federal programs.
  • Being an information source for local, county, and state legislators.
  • Providing a resource center for materials related to historic preservation commissions.
